Episode 10 - Pet Adoption

In this episode, Lauren is joined by her sister and her friend, Megan. They discuss adopting a pet from a shelter and what the process is like. We also talk about using a breeder to find a pet and what the processes are along with what you need to know when working with a breeder.

 Show Notes:

  • There are many places you can find a pet, a shelter, rescue, breeder or pet store.

  • Pet Stores, typically get pets from backyard or mill breeders

  • Shelters and Rescues

    • Myth buster! You can find puppies/kittens and young pets in shelters or rescues

    • If you are looking for a specific breed, there are breed specific rescues you can adopt from

    • Most organizations will provide post-adoption support for you and your new pet

  • If you are looking for a pet, maybe not a puppy or kitten I highly encourage you to visit a local shelter

    • Pets from shelters need a loving home and they can be great additions to your family, just ask Jenna!

  • Breeders are another great option if you are looking for a puppy or a specific breed

    • Breeding is an unregulated field, so as pet owners we need to do our due-diligence when interviewing a breeder

    • You should be asking just as many questions about them, their facility and the dogs they are breeding as they are asking you about yourself

    • Not all breeders have the same standards as others, but this should not always discourage you from adopting

    • Your pets may just need a bit more TLC and patience, but will be a loving pet for your family
