In today’s episode Lauren dives into how cats as creatures spend their days. We also offer tips on how to engage with your cat to promote healthy mental and physical health.

  • Cats are always in fight or flight mode as they are one of the only mammals to be both prey and predators.

  • When talking about the health of your cat we need to talk about not just the physical, but also the emotional and cognitive health.

  • When optimizing your cats lifestyle think about the stages they go through throughout the day:

    • Hunt/Play

    • Eat

    • Sleep

    • Groom

    • Social

  • Play should always mimic hunting and should always end in an award.

  • Eat doesn’t always have to take place in the kitchen and remember your cat wants to work for their food.

  • Sleep takes place about 50-60% of the day - talk about a cat nap!

  • Grooming has many benefits for your cat and most interestingly it helps to regulate their body temperature.

  • Socialization should always engage all five senses.
