Episode 33 - Why Do Dogs Burrow?
Today we are going to try to answer why our dogs burrow in bed or under covers. My dog is notorious for doing this and then stealing the covers. It is cute, but is there a reason they love to do this so much?
Show Notes:
Certain breeds are more inclined to burrow or dig while in bed and in general this behavior is not detrimental to their health.
If you have a terrier or Dachshund then you have probably witnessed their blanket digging behavior.
Instinctively they feel comfortable within dark and cozy spaces such as under duvets and blankets.
There are some blankets that are safer than others and of course there are certain breeds and ages of pups that need to be monitored when they decide to tunnel into a comfy bed.
Most adult dogs will thermoregulate - that is remove themselves from under the blanket when they begin to feel too hot.
There are some blankets that really are not a good idea for our dogs, such as weighted blankets.
